7-Hour Small Group from Akureyri Port: Godafoss, Hverfjall Crater Hike and Dettifoss
Three big natural sights in seven hours, with the Hverfjall crater climb as the active part. The day starts at the Saga Travel hut at the main port in Akureyri and heads first to Goðafoss, 12 meters high and about 30 meters wide, fed by the Skjálfandafljót river from the Vatnajökull glacier. Hverfjall, also called Hverfell, is a tephra crater near Lake Mývatn that formed about 2,500 years ago. It is nearly circular, around 1 kilometer across and 140 meters deep, and a marked trail leads up to the rim, where the group can walk around the whole crater and look over the volcanic terrain and the lake. A 15-minute lunch stop in the village of Reykjahlíð, on the shore of Lake Mývatn, leaves time for a quick meal or snack. Dettifoss in Northeast Iceland is the last waterfall: 44 meters tall, about 100 meters wide, dropping into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon with mist and a roar. Bottled water, a packed lunch and WiFi on board are included. The group is small, and guides wear red Saga Travel jackets.

Gránufélagsgata 51, Akureyri
A hut marked Saga Travel stands at the main port in Akureyri (Tangabryggja), and the guides wear red Saga Travel jackets. If the ship docks at the secondary port (Oddeyrarbryggja), staff meet passengers right outside the ship and walk them to the hut.

Goðafoss
Goðafoss in North Iceland drops 12 meters (39 feet) over a curved, horseshoe-shaped cliff and spreads about 30 meters (98 feet) wide. The Skjálfandafljót river that feeds it comes from the Vatnajökull glacier. Its name, Waterfall of the Gods, goes back to Iceland's adoption of Christianity around the year 1000. The water has a turquoise tint.

Hverfjall
Hverfjall, or Hverfell, is a tephra crater near Lake Mývatn, formed about 2,500 years ago in an eruption. It is nearly circular, about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) across and 140 meters (460 feet) deep, with black rocky slopes. A marked trail climbs to the rim, and the walk around the whole crater gives panoramic views of the volcanic terrain and Lake Mývatn.
-
Reykjahlid
Reykjahlíð is a village of a few hundred people on the shore of Lake Mývatn, surrounded by volcanic terrain and geothermal activity. The tour stops here for 15 minutes for lunch, enough for a quick meal or snack with a view of the lake and the volcanic scenery.
-
Dettifoss
Dettifoss in Northeast Iceland is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. It falls 44 meters (144 feet) into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon across about 100 meters (330 feet) of width. The glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which starts at the Vatnajökull glacier, feeds it, and the flow throws up mist and a loud roar against a stark rocky, volcanic setting.
