Montmorency Falls tour from Quebec City: bus, bike or private car
16 listings, from under 30 to more than 500 EUR, for an 83 m waterfall 12 km from Old Quebec. Only three are built around the falls; the price depends on what surrounds them.
Sixteen listings sell a Montmorency Falls tour from Quebec City, priced from under 30 to more than 500 EUR and typically 120 to 250 EUR; the cheapest one is a ticket to a different waterfall. Only three are built around the waterfall itself: bike and e-bike rides at 120 to 250 EUR. Twelve pair the 83 m drop with a basilica, an island or a whole city, and one is a ticket to a different waterfall. This page reads the list the way a buyer has to: what the falls get out of each tour, what the park charges that a tour may not cover, why the same view costs under 60 EUR on one listing and more than 500 EUR on another, and where a public bus does the job for the price of a park ticket. Niagara has its own page, Niagara Falls, and the rest of the country sits on the Canada page.
How to read what follows. The table sorts the 16 listings into seven formats. The chart separates shared tours from private ones; four private prices are per person like the shared ones, and two, in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band, are for the whole group. The map shows how far each excursion reaches from the old city. The listings carry the provider's own text, and every inclusion quoted below was read in the listing itself on 22 October 2026. Prices are in euros as the provider lists them, and ratings are weighted by the number of reviews, not averaged across listings. Where a listing is silent about something, the page says so instead of guessing, because several of the cheapest listings are silent about exactly the costs that matter.

Montmorency Falls compared with Niagara, measured properly
The falls drop 83 m in two steps, according to Wikipedia, at an average flow of about 130 cubic metres a second. They sit roughly 12 km from the old city, between Beauport and Boischatel, where the Montmorency River meets the St Lawrence. Nearly every listing says they are higher than Niagara, several by 30 m. Against the 57 m that Niagara Parks gives for the Horseshoe Falls, the margin is 26 m. In summer the water takes a yellow cast that Wikipedia attributes to iron in the riverbed, and in winter a cone of ice, the pain de sucre, builds at the base.
Montmorency is about 26 m taller than Niagara and carries roughly one eighteenth of the water.
The second half is arithmetic: Wikipedia's list of Canadian waterfalls puts the Horseshoe at an average of 2,407 cubic metres a second.
What the park adds to the waterfall
The falls sit inside a Sépaq park, and the park is half of what you buy. A suspension bridge crosses the crest, and a cable car links the base to the top. The Québec City tourism board lists a zipline, via ferrata routes and a staircase of 487 steps, and says the park is open all year except 25 December. Sépaq charges for entry and sells the cable car separately.
Tours treat this unevenly. The e-bike ride, in the 120 to 250 EUR band, includes the cable car. The food tour, in the 250 to 500 EUR band, and the private tour, in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band, list park entry as included. The day from Montreal, in the 30 to 60 EUR band, says admission is not included and sells tickets through the guide on the bus.
A Montmorency Falls tour from Quebec City: seven ways to buy one
Read the last column of the table first. It says what the waterfall gets out of the day, and in most formats the answer is one stop among several.
| Format | Listings | Price band (EUR) | Length | What the falls get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small-group city tour of Old Quebec and the falls | 1 | 30 to 60 | 2.5 h | 45 minutes on site, after the old city |
| Half day with Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré | 1 | 60 to 120 | 5.2 h | One stop among a basilica, a museum, Île d'Orléans and a chocolate shop |
| Bike or e-bike ride | 3 | 120 to 250 | 3.5 to 4 h | The destination; the cable car is in the e-bike ride |
| Day trip from Montreal | 3 | 30 to 120 | 13 to 14 h | A stop inside a day about Old Quebec; admission extra on the cheapest one |
| Private car or van | 6 | 120 to 1,000 | 3.5 to 5 h | Timed to you, usually paired with the basilica or the island; priced per person, except two in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band for the whole group |
| Food tour of Île d'Orléans | 1 | 250 to 500 | 5 h | A stop; entry and cable car included |
| Canyon Sainte-Anne entry ticket | 1 | under 30 | Open visit | Nothing: a different waterfall, 74 m, about 29 km away |
Plot the 15 listings that state a length and the shared tours stay under 500 EUR whether they last 2.5 hours or 14. The cheapest hour belongs to the longest day: the 14-hour Montreal listing and the 2.5-hour small-group city tour both sit in the 30 to 60 EUR band, which makes an hour on the long day far cheaper. The six private listings sit apart, between roughly 120 and 1,000 EUR.
Private prices need one check. The two drives in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band are quoted for the whole group, so for a party of four they work out at a per-head price in the same band as the shared median. The other four private listings are priced per person, which makes the two above 500 EUR the dearest way to see the falls. The ticket under 30 EUR is off the chart because an entry has no length.
Day trips from Montreal: where most of the reviews are
Three of the 16 listings start in Montreal, and they hold 4,147 of the 8,936 reviews, 46%. One says the coach takes 2.5 hours each way, so a 13 or 14 hour day leaves eight or nine hours in Quebec City, and the falls are a stop within that. They suit a cheap look at Old Quebec and not the waterfall: about five hours of the day is the drive, and the listings we opened do not say how long you stand at the falls.
Going without a tour
For the waterfall alone, a tour from Quebec City has to beat a public bus. RTC route 800 serves the park all year, according to the tourism board, which names the stop as des Rapides. After that the ticket is the park's and the time is yours. To reach the base on foot there is the staircase on the right of this photograph, and the cable car links the bottom to the top.
A tour earns its price when you want the bike, the basilica or the island, or travel as a group without a car.
Where the tours start and what they reach
Nearly every Quebec City listing starts in the old city, from the Rue des Jardins in the Upper Town to the Rue Saint-Paul in the Lower Town. The falls are 12 km along the north shore, with Île d'Orléans in the river just beyond. The basilica at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is about 22 km from the falls in a straight line, and Canyon Sainte-Anne, the 74 m waterfall behind the cheapest ticket, about 29. The provider data marks half the listings as offering pickup. Straight-line figures are ours, from listing coordinates.
Who runs the tours, and what the ratings say
Sixteen listings, sixteen operators. Unitours dominates: its half-day trip holds 3,169 reviews, 35% of the page, at 4.2. The page-wide rating of 4.38 hides a split. The three listings with more than 1,000 reviews score 4.2, 4.2 and 4.7, while small private operators sit at 4.4 to 5.0 on between 6 and 202 reviews, and a 5.0 on 24 reviews is weaker evidence than a 4.2 on 3,000. The bike rides are the exception, 4.9 on 375 reviews and 4.8 on 150.

A makeover of the tourist site was announced in July.
What a private tour is worth
Six private listings, six prices, from roughly 120 to 1,000 EUR. The cheapest is a vehicle service with private transport, parking, water and a basilica tour except on Sundays; at the falls you walk the site yourself. The second dearest adds a guide at the falls and park entry over 4.5 hours, and its rating rests on 12 reviews. The dearest has 10.
The private prices run from roughly 120 to 1,000 EUR for three and a half to five hours.
Two of the prices, both in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band, are for the whole group and the other four are per person. The spread does not track the work done, so compare inclusions line by line.
Mistakes people make when they book
The commonest is to assume that a listing with Montmorency in the title is about Montmorency: twelve of the 16 pair it with something else, and the cheapest ticket is for a different waterfall. Next come comparing a private car with a seat, booking a Montreal day for the waterfall, and assuming park admission is in the price. A waterfall that is a season rather than a place is on the Canadian Rockies page.
When to go
The park is open all year except 25 December, according to the tourism listing, so there is no month chart on this page. What changes is the look: the yellow water in summer, the ice cone in winter. The listings we opened state no winter schedule for the bike rides, so ask before booking one between November and April.
Questions about Montmorency Falls tours
Is Montmorency Falls worth visiting?
Yes, if you are in Quebec City anyway and have an hour. It is 83 m high, 12 km from the old city and open all year. It is not worth a 14-hour day from Montreal on its own. The bike rides, at 120 to 250 EUR for about four hours, treat the falls as the point.
How do I get to Montmorency Falls without a car?
RTC bus 800 serves the park all year, with a stop named des Rapides, according to the Québec City tourism board. The alternatives are a bike ride from the Lower Town at 120 to 250 EUR or a small-group city tour under 60 EUR that includes Old Quebec. We found no current timetable to cite, so check the RTC site.
Is Montmorency Falls higher than Niagara Falls?
Yes. Montmorency drops 83 m and Niagara Parks gives the Horseshoe Falls as 57 m, a margin of 26 m. Many listings say 30 m. Niagara carries far more water, 2,407 cubic metres a second at the Horseshoe (Wikipedia's list) against about 130 at Montmorency.
Does the tour price include the park ticket and the cable car?
It depends. Of the listings we opened, the e-bike ride in the 120 to 250 EUR band includes the cable car, the food tour in the 250 to 500 EUR band and the private tour in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band include park entry, and the Montreal day in the 30 to 60 EUR band says admission is not included. Read the inclusions list.
Weighing this against Niagara?
Niagara Falls has its own page, with the tours from Toronto and from New York set side by side.
