Dunn's River reopened on November 11, 2025, after Hurricane Melissa. The park sets its own admission, with separate adult and child rates (the Gleaner says ages 4 to 12, the listings 4 to 11), and the entrance is not always in the tour price, so check the current tariff. Dunn's River Falls, a climb on a staircase of travertine
Dunn's River drops about 180 feet (55 m) over roughly 600 feet (180 m) of length, in terraces of travertine that the water keeps rebuilding, and it ends at a beach. The Spanish called the place Las Chorreras, the springs, and in 1657 English troops defeated them at its foot, an event recorded on a plaque of the Jamaican Historical Society.
Listings do not agree on the size. Several call it a 600-foot climb, and one says the water falls 1,000 feet. The first is the length, and we could not source the second, so use 180 and 600 and stay suspicious of anything bigger. The state agency that runs the park reopened it on November 11, 2025.
Dunn's River is not a view you pay to see. It is a climb you pay to do, and the guide is the product.
What the climb asks of you
A guided climb takes 1 to 1.5 hours, and anyone who would rather skip the water can use the stairs alongside. A few listings sell that dry walk as a plan of its own. You need a swimsuit, a towel and water shoes, which listings say you can buy or rent at the attractions.
One catamaran listing warns against the climb for people with spinal injuries, pregnancy or poor cardiovascular health and asks for moderate fitness. Take that seriously: it is a climb over wet rock, and the warning is in the listing, not ours.
The Blue Hole, and why its name causes trouble
The Blue Hole is Island Gully Falls, also sold as Secret Falls, in the White River valley south of Ocho Rios. It is a run of limestone pools and sinkholes with a jump of about 20 feet into a deep pool and a rope swing. One listing describes a 5-minute trail. It is run by local guides rather than a state agency.
The name is the trap. Negril has a Blue Hole Mineral Spring, a pool with no falls, and the two share nothing but a word. We left eleven Negril listings out of the catalog for that reason. If your tour starts in Negril and says Blue Hole, ask which one.
Price is another trap. The cheapest Blue Hole listing is under 30 EUR and is an admission ticket with no ride. A Blue Hole and Konoko Falls combo from Ocho Rios is in the 30 to 60 EUR band, a private combo in the 60 to 120 EUR band, and a day with an ATV in the 120 to 250 EUR band. Konoko is a private park with gardens, and no listing is built around it alone.

The one that fits most people staying in the hills is both falls in one day: it has the most reviews and the second-best rating. If you only want to swim, the Blue Hole pages are cheaper. If a ship is waiting, the Ocho Rios and Falmouth page is the one with 25% boat listings and the lowest rating of the four. And the Montego Bay page is the longest drive for the highest price.
One listing that belongs to none of them
A catamaran party cruise sits on this page by itself: Jamaica Dunn's River Falls Party Cruise with Snorkeling, from Cool Runnings Catamarans, at 120 to 250 EUR for 4 hours, with an open bar, snorkeling and a climb. It has 1,005 reviews, the second most in the whole Jamaican set, and a rating of 4.2. The description says it is only available from Negril on Wednesdays, and also gives Mahogany Beach in Ocho Rios as the meeting point. Those two statements do not fit together, so ask before you book. A note on it says it is not offered to guests of one cruise line.

The median length is 4.5 hours, and the longest listings, up to 9 hours, are Montego Bay departures. A half-day from Montego Bay is mostly a drive.
How the 81 prices are spread
The dots on the chart are the medians of the four formats, and the bars are their middle half. The overall typical price is 120 to 250 EUR and the middle half runs from roughly 60 to 250 EUR. The top of the range, at more than 250 EUR, is a Dunn's River climb with a zipline, and the bottom is a Blue Hole ticket under 30 EUR.
Between those, price follows what is added more than what is visited: a catamaran, an ATV ride or a zipline pushes a listing toward the top, and a longer drive adds hours, not a fixed premium: shared Dunn's River tours cost the same from Montego Bay as from Ocho Rios, and the higher median is the private cars. Ratings sit between 4.57 and 4.86 and hardly help you choose.
Ship days and the crowd
Ocho Rios is a cruise port. Of the 387 products we screened, 72 were sold as shore excursions from Falmouth, Ocho Rios or Montego Bay. On days when ships dock the climb is busy. Six of the products we read promised no crowds, a sunrise start or a skip-the-line pass, and none of those claims can be verified from the listing.
If you are on a ship, book a tour that names the return time to the pier in its own text, and leave a margin. If you are not, ask for the first slot of the day.

We found no record of the water level changing with the season at either fall. The season to avoid is the late hurricane months, and the dry winter months are the quiet pick. Rain on a given day matters less than you would think, since you are getting wet anyway.
How to choose among Ocho Rios waterfall tours
Pick the place first. Dunn's River if you want the staircase and the guide, the Blue Hole if you want to jump and swim, both if you have a full morning and can take a long lunch. Then pick the start, because the drive costs you hours.
Ask three questions before you pay. Is the entrance included? Two listings say it is not, and the official tariff is on top. Is the price per person or for the whole group? For private tours it is per person, except the Dunn's River Falls and Shopping Tour at 120 to 250 EUR, which quotes one price for the group. And who is the operator, since 48 of them share these 81 listings and one holds 13% of the reviews.

Can you do Dunn's River Falls and the Blue Hole in one day?
Yes, and it is the most common format here. Listings run from 4 hours from Ocho Rios to 8 hours from Montego Bay, where most of the extra time is the road. The 5.5-hour median is the realistic figure for a day that includes both and a meal.
What is the difference between Dunn's River and the Blue Hole?
