Waterfalls in Brazil: Iguazu, Fumaça and the falls you cannot book
80 Brazil tours, all at Iguazu Falls, from under 60 to more than 500 EUR. The rest of the country's falls are treks, viewpoints and remote places.
All 80 Brazil tours on this site go to one place: Iguazu Falls. They typically cost 120 to 250 EUR, from under 60 EUR for a shared day trip to more than 500 EUR for a package, and 91% of them include pickup. Brazil's other waterfalls are spread over a country the size of a continent, and the tall ones are reached on foot, by car or not at all. This page is the guide to waterfalls in Brazil as people really visit them: which you can see on a tour, which need a trek, which are too remote to plan around, how far apart they are and what the 80 listings we do sell actually include. It also says why Iguazu, the only waterfall in Brazil with tours here, is filed under Brazil and listed under Argentina as well.
How to read this page. Iguazu sits under Brazil because most tours leave from Foz do Iguaçu, and the menu also lists it under Argentina. The falls themselves, the two parks and the four tour formats are on the Iguazu Falls page. Here is the rest of the country, with an honest line for each waterfall about how you get there and whether we sell it. Prices are as listed on 22 October 2026, in euros, and the heights are approximate wherever their source is a blog or a database.

Waterfalls in Brazil: where they are
Iguazu and Fumaça both fall from the edge of a plateau: a river crosses a flat upland and drops off its rim. At Iguazu the rim is basalt, in the south-west on the border with Argentina. In Bahia, the Chapada Diamantina is a sandstone plateau, and Cachoeira da Fumaça falls from its edge. The map shows how far apart these places are. Fumaça, in the north-east, lies about 2,000 km from Iguazu in a straight line by the map's scale, and Caracol Falls, in the far south, about 550 km.
Brazil's waterfalls are not a circuit. Each one is its own trip.
Distance is part of why tours cluster in one place. A tour needs a town with hotels, an operator and a road, and Foz do Iguaçu has all three within about 30 minutes of the falls. The tour providers we read list far more Iguazu tours than tours to any other waterfall in Brazil.
The main waterfalls and how you visit each
Heights for Brazil's falls vary by source, and the World Waterfall Database marks most of them unconfirmed, so every figure in this table is approximate. What matters more is the mode of visit: a tour, a trek with a local guide, a viewpoint, or nothing at all because the place is remote.
| Waterfall | State | Height, approximate | How you visit | On this site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iguazu Falls (Cataratas do Iguaçu) | Paraná, on the Argentine border | Up to 82 m | Day tour from Foz do Iguaçu, or on your own with the park ticket | 80 tours |
| Cachoeira da Fumaça | Bahia, Chapada Diamantina | About 340 m | Trek of roughly two hours to the top | None |
| Cachoeira do Tabuleiro | Minas Gerais | About 273 m | Hike on rock, per operator accounts | None |
| Salto do Itiquira | Goiás | About 168 m | Accessible, near Brasília | None |
| Cachoeira do El Dorado | Amazonas | About 353 m | Remote: not an excursion | None |
| Véu da Noiva | Mato Grosso, Chapada dos Guimarães | About 86 m | Easy trails | None |
| Cachoeira do Buracão | Bahia | About 85 m | Canyon, with a swim at the base | None |
The map's grey triangles are bases where visitors search for waterfalls and rivers: Chapada dos Veadeiros in Goiás, Bonito in Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio de Janeiro. Each has local operators for day trips. None is in this site's catalog and we have not read their listings, so we say nothing about their prices.
Cachoeira da Fumaça: a trek, not a tour
In Bahia's Chapada Diamantina the Fumaça drop is quoted at about 340 m, and its name means «smoke». Operators describe a trek of roughly two hours to the top, and the photo shows what you get for it: a rim above a forested canyon.
Sources disagree on whether a guide is required, so ask locally before you go. We found no season data we trust for Fumaça, so we give none.
Caracol Falls, in the far south
Caracol Falls, near Canela in Rio Grande do Sul, is on the map as the southern anchor, roughly 550 km from Iguazu in a straight line. The photo shows it from above, as a single drop into forest.
We found no height or access source for it and say nothing more. We list no tour there, which is why it is on the map and not in our tour list.
Moving between Brazil's waterfalls
Distances decide the plan. Iguazu to Caracol is about 550 km on the map and Iguazu to Fumaça about 2,000 km, so any trip that holds two regions needs a flight. Inside a region the problem is small: blog accounts put the Brazilian falls at 20 to 30 minutes by road from Foz do Iguaçu. A realistic single trip is Iguazu alone, or one region at a time. We do not quote flight times or fares, because they are not in our catalog.
Waterfalls in Brazil by season
At Iguazu, travel guides put the high-flow months at December to March and the low-flow months at June to August, but no official source gives the months, and the record flow of 9 June 2014 came in the middle of that low season. A flood can arrive in any month. For the other falls in the table we have no season data we trust, so we leave them out rather than guess.
What a waterfall tour in Brazil costs
At 120 to 250 EUR Brazil sits right beside Jamaica and Canada in the ranking, ninth highest of the 21 countries. Because the country is one waterfall here, the number is the price of Iguazu. The middle half of the tours runs from roughly 60 to 250 EUR. The top of that range is multi-day packages and private tours. Private tours here are priced per person, like shared seats; only 4 of the 33 quote one price for the whole group, all in the 120 to 250 EUR band.
The four formats have their own pages: the Brazilian side, the Argentine side, both sides in one day and multi-day packages. A day on one side and both sides in one day both typically cost 60 to 120 EUR, a package 120 to 250 EUR.
What the 80 Iguazu listings include
| Feature | Share of the 80 | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup included | 91% | You can usually book from the town where you sleep |
| Private tour | 41% | Private tours are per person too; 4 of 33 quote a group price |
| Multi-day | 19% | Not comparable with a day trip |
| Boat ride | 15% | One operator says river level can affect it |
| Flight | 5% | Helicopter flights; the shortest listing is about 10 to 12 minutes |
| Lunch included | 4% | Plan to pay for food on the day |
Thirty-nine operators run the 80 tours, and the one with the largest share of the reviews holds 11%, so no single company sets the product. The numbers describe the listings, not the days: a day on the Argentine side and a day on the Brazilian side are different walks, which the format pages explain.
Questions about waterfalls in Brazil
What are the most famous waterfalls in Brazil?
Iguazu is the one most visitors mean. After it come the tall ones that need effort: Cachoeira da Fumaça in Bahia, quoted at about 340 m, and Cachoeira do Tabuleiro in Minas Gerais, about 273 m. The heights come from the World Waterfall Database, which marks most of them unconfirmed, and from operator blogs.
What is the tallest waterfall in Brazil?
El Dorado, in Amazonas, is listed at about 353 m, but it is remote and not an excursion. Fumaça (340 m) and Tabuleiro (273 m) are the tall ones people actually walk to. Treat all three heights as approximate, because listicles and the database often disagree.
Can you visit waterfalls in Brazil without a tour?
Yes, Iguazu included: both parks sell tickets and have marked paths, and the Brazilian park sells tickets online. Tours add the transfer, the guide and, from Foz do Iguaçu, the border crossing. The tall falls in Bahia and Minas Gerais are treks where guide rules and access vary, so ask locally.
When is the best time to visit waterfalls in Brazil?
It depends on the waterfall. Travel guides put Iguazu's high water at December to March and low water at June to August, but no official source gives the months, and 2026 closures were reported from July to October. Check park notices the week you go.
Is Iguazu in Brazil or Argentina?
Both: the river is the border. Most of the falls are on the Argentine side, according to Wikipedia. We found no official figure for the split, so we give none. Each country runs its own park and ticket.
