Da Lat Waterfall Tours: Three Falls in a Day, or Canyoning
20 tours from 14 operators: group days from under 30 to 60 EUR without lunch, canyoning at roughly 30 to 120 EUR with it, and typically 30 to 60 EUR overall.
A group tour of Da Lat's three waterfalls costs under 30 EUR on the cheapest listing and under 60 EUR on the dearest, and none of the six includes lunch. The canyoning listings cost roughly 30 to 120 EUR and all six include it. That split, more than distance, is how the 20 Da Lat waterfall tours divide: a day of sightseeing in which the falls are three stops among six or eight, or a day on a rope in the Datanla gorge. Between them sit six private and motorbike tours at roughly 30 to 120 EUR. This page reads each type, says what is extra, and flags the two doubts we could not close: whether the base of Elephant Falls can be visited, and how current the safety record of Datanla canyoning is. Nothing here is a ranking: the cheapest tour is not the worst and the dearest is not the best.
Wondering how Da Lat compares with the rest of the country? The Vietnam page sets it against the other trip, and the Ban Gioc page reads the 20 tours that go north, typically 120 to 250 EUR for two days. Everything here stays in the Da Lat highlands, where the falls are 5 to 50 km from town and every price is a day price. The tours are listed above this text; what follows explains how to read them, which is mostly a matter of reading the not-included lines and the stop lists.

What a Da Lat waterfall tour actually is
The phrase covers three products. The first is the standard three-falls day: Datanla, Pongour and Elephant Falls, plus whatever the operator can fit between them. The cheapest listing, under 30 EUR, is typical, with eight stops: the three falls, Linh An Pagoda, a silk-weaving workshop, a cricket farm, a coffee plantation and a bamboo-weaving stop. The falls are three of eight. A listing in the 30 to 60 EUR band has three of six, with a pagoda, a coffee stop and a park with a gong performance and a luge ride making up the rest. It is a countryside day that happens to include waterfalls, and the listings say so.
In a three-waterfalls tour, the waterfalls are between a third and a half of the stops.
The second product is canyoning in the Datanla gorge, and the third is a private car or motorbike with a driver who builds the day with you. The rest of this page is about telling the three apart before you pay.
Stop by stop: the cheapest three-falls tour
| Stop | What the listing says | Cost on top |
|---|---|---|
| Datanla Waterfall | A fall in Prenn Pass, about 5 km south of the city, with an optional alpine coaster | Entrance and coaster not included |
| Pongour Waterfall | A fall in seven levels, about 50 km south on National Highway 20 | Entrance included |
| Elephant Waterfall | Listed as temporarily closed; the whole fall is seen from Linh An Pagoda | None |
| Linh An Pagoda | A large statue of the Lady Buddha, 33 km from the city | None listed |
| Silk workshop, cricket farm | Two craft and farm stops in Lam Ha district | None listed |
| Me Linh coffee plantation | Weasel coffee | Flagged as an extra |
| Bamboo weaving | A craft stop | None listed |
Read the not-included lines before you compare prices. The cheapest listing leaves out lunch and the coaster, and says entrance fees are covered except at Datanla. A listing in the 30 to 60 EUR band leaves out lunch, the luge, the go-kart and the coaster, and says nothing about entrance fees. One private tour in the 60 to 120 EUR band states that all entrance fees are included. Part of the gap between the cheapest listing and the private tour is a gap in what each price counts.
Linh An Pagoda
Elephant Falls, seen from the pagoda
Elephant Falls (Thác Voi) lies beside Linh An Pagoda, about 33 km from the city by one listing's count. Three listings describe it three ways. One says the fall is temporarily closed because of an operational issue, and that you see all of it from the pagoda. Another says the tour does not include access to the base. A private tour in the 60 to 120 EUR band still promises you will be sprayed. We cannot tell you which is current.
The photo shows the fall from above, with a path beside it. If the foot of the fall matters, ask the operator in writing whether the base is open on your date.
Where the three falls are
Datanla is the near one: Prenn Pass, about 5 km south of the center. Elephant Falls and Linh An Pagoda lie south-west, around 33 km. Pongour is the far one, about 50 km south on National Highway 20 in Đức Trọng district. All three distances are the listings' own. The Nha Trang tour starts 140 km away, which turns Datanla into one stop among six on a ten-hour day that also takes in Robin Hill and Linh Phuoc Pagoda.
Đức Trọng district
Pongour, the fall worth the drive
Pongour is the one fall of the three that can carry a day on its own. Three listings are built around it as the only waterfall, at under 30 EUR for a small group and 30 to 60 EUR for private and easy-rider tours, and the listings describe a fall in seven levels. The photo shows the stepped rock, with water spread over several levels at once.
The drive is about 50 km, so a Pongour-only tour trades the coaster and the Elephant Falls doubt for a longer ride. For a first visit it is the better trade.
What the price buys
The dots fall into bands. Group sightseeing tours sit low and to the right: from under 30 to 60 EUR for six to eight hours. Canyoning sits high and to the left: roughly 30 to 120 EUR for five to seven. Length buys nothing here. The two eight-hour group tours cost less than every six-hour canyoning day. Two dots stand apart. One is a three-hour walk to a waterfall on a sturgeon farm, not open to the public, at under 30 EUR; it is an activity at one farm, not a benchmark. The other is the 10-hour Nha Trang day, in the 60 to 120 EUR band.
| Format | Listings | Price band | Length | Lunch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Group sightseeing | 6 | Under 30 to 60 EUR, typically under 30 | 6 to 8 hours | None |
| Private or easy-rider | 6 | 30 to 120 EUR, typically 30 to 60 | 5 to 7 hours | None |
| Canyoning | 6 | 30 to 120 EUR, typically 60 to 120 | 5 to 7 hours | All six |
| Single-stop trips | 2 | Under 30 and 60 to 120 EUR | 3 and 10 hours | None |
Private tours are priced per person here, and none of the six quotes one price for the whole group. The private car in the 60 to 120 EUR band sets a minimum of two guests and offers a motorbike if you are alone, and the price is per person, so it sits directly beside a group tour.
Canyoning at Datanla
Six listings sell it, at roughly 30 to 120 EUR, and they describe much the same course: a dry rappel of 18 m, a waterfall rappel of 25 m, a 7 m jump into the water and a last drop called the Washing Machine. The zipline in between is 40, 50 or 70 m depending on the listing, which tells you the descriptions were written separately. Lunch is a picnic. Departures are around 8:00 to 8:30, with about 20 minutes in the van to the gorge. Five of the six name Datanla; the sixth lists the same obstacles.
The safety record, and what to ask
What Datanla canyoning has behind it
Dates from Vietnamese press reports gathered in our research. The causes in 2016 are reported differently by different outlets.
The origins
-
February 2016
Three British tourists die at Datanla
Local outlets report the deaths. Accounts differ on whether high water in the river or an activity without authorization was to blame.
-
22 September 2018
A South Korean tourist dies canyoning in Da Lat
Lam Dong authorities suspend adventure activities, according to Vietnamese press.
Fatal accidents in 2016 and 2018 and a suspension of adventure activities are context, not a verdict on the six operators on this page. Still, ask. Ask for the permit, the number of guides per guest, the minimum age or height (one listing sets 150 cm, quoting the waterfall management's safety rules) and what the insurance pays for. One listing states that forest and tourist permits, travel insurance and a first-aid kit are included. That is the kind of line to look for.
How to choose
Decide first whether you want waterfalls or a day out. If waterfalls, Pongour carries the day and the rest is filler, and the Pongour-only tours are the cheapest way to see it. If you want the countryside, the group tours at under 60 EUR are honest value as long as you budget the extras: lunch, the coaster and, on the 30 to 60 EUR tour, the luge. If you want adrenaline, canyoning is a separate purchase with its own questions, above. A private tour suits a family, once you know the price unit.
The mistakes are predictable. People compare the cheapest listing with the private car without reading what each leaves out. They book a three-falls tour expecting to stand at the foot of Elephant Falls. They treat Datanla as a big fall, when one travel guide puts it at about 20 m and its draw is the coaster and the gorge.
When to go
Da Lat's wet season runs from May to October and the dry season from November to April, by Wikipedia's entry for the town. Falls carry more water in the rain; the dry months give the steadier day. No listing we read sets a season.

Questions about Da Lat waterfall tours
Is Datanla worth it?
As a waterfall it is modest, about 20 m by one travel guide, set in a park whose draw is the alpine coaster. It is worth it if you want the coaster or the canyoning. If you came for a big fall, Pongour is the better use of the day.
Which Da Lat waterfalls are best?
Pongour for the fall itself, with seven levels and the longest drive of the three. Datanla for things to do. Elephant Falls only if the operator confirms that the base is open, because listings disagree and some show it from Linh An Pagoda.
Do Da Lat waterfall tours include entrance fees?
It depends on the listing. The cheapest group tour includes them except at Datanla. A private tour in the 60 to 120 EUR band includes all of them. The group tour in the 30 to 60 EUR band does not say. The alpine coaster, the luge and lunch are extra on the group tours.
Is canyoning at Datanla safe?
Guides, harnesses and wetsuits are listed, and one listing includes permits and insurance. But fatal accidents were reported in 2016 and 2018, adventure activities were suspended in 2018, and we could not confirm the permit status as of 22 October 2026. Ask the operator before you book.

Ban Gioc is the other trip on this site: 20 listings, typically 120 to 250 EUR, usually two days from Hanoi.
