What YS Falls is
YS Falls is a private estate at Middle Quarters in St Elizabeth, with seven falls dropping about 118 feet (36 m) from the top to the bottom, according to a published guide. One listing prints 120 feet. The water lands in pools you can swim in, and the park has lawns and gardens around them. Visitors ride up to the falls on a shuttle, as a listing describes it.
The origin of the name YS is disputed between two versions, and we do not print either. What the estate itself says is more useful: admission, hours, a closed day and a calendar that moves from year to year.
YS Falls is the waterfall in Jamaica where the opening calendar is part of the product.
Pools, steps and shoes
Lifeguards are on site, and the listings say the swimming areas are marked. There are steps along the side of the falls to different levels, and a natural pool fed by springs sits apart for children and anyone who cannot swim. One listing is blunt that being able to swim is a requirement for the falls themselves.
The estate recommends river shoes, and a listing says some areas are rocky. A locker is a separate item, and one operator states that towels are not provided. Bring your own.

The estate also says that the calendar changes from year to year, so a date that worked last year is a guess for this one. A listing that offers you a Monday is wrong. Two private listings in our set say outright that YS Falls is closed on Mondays. Book the day, not the week.
Ticket or tour: what you pay for
The estate sets one price for a foreign adult and a lower one for a child from 3 to 15. The cheapest listing in our set, from Black River, is transport only and puts the entry fee on you, with a figure in its own text that is lower than the estate's current tariff. At the other end, a private day from Negril in the 120 to 250 EUR band names entrance and lunch in its title.
So compare the ticket first. Take the price, add the entrance fee per person if it is not in it, and only then divide. Private prices are less of a trap: the 17 private listings are priced per person, like shared seats, and none quotes one price for the whole group, with a minimum of two people and a maximum of 15.

The second stop: Black River, Appleton and the Pelican Bar
Ten of the 20 titles name the Black River Safari, a boat ride through mangroves where, the listings say, crocodiles and more than 100 bird species are seen. Six name the Appleton Estate, a rum distillery with a tasting; its listing notes that it closes on Mondays and holidays. Seven name the Pelican Bar, a driftwood bar on a sandbar about 20 minutes from shore by boat, where lunch and drinks are extra.
Add the drive. A listing says the Appleton Estate is about 2 hours from both Montego Bay and Negril. Take a 7-hour day, remove 2 hours each way, and three stops share the 3 hours that remain. That is why a combo day feels short at the falls. The lengths in the data are not reliable either: two full-day, three-stop listings show 3 hours, so ask for the pickup and return times in writing.

Black River by boat
The Black River Safari is a guided boat ride up a mangrove river, described as a 4-mile trip in one listing, with a stop at a crocodile nursery afterward. One listing counts its entrance among the included fees. For a transport-only listing, the boat ticket is another cost to ask about.
It is a quiet change from the swimming, and it is the most common second stop: 10 of the 20 titles name it.
Choosing a YS Falls tour from Montego Bay or Negril
Seven titles name Montego Bay and four name Negril, and the others leave the pickup to the booking page. One private listing from Montego Bay counts 4 hours of travel inside an 8-hour day, and that includes two other stops. Mistakes to avoid at YS Falls
Do not book a Monday, and do not trust a listing that does not name the day it runs. Do not assume the entrance is in the price. Do not buy for the zipline: listings still describe a canopy ride 40 feet above the falls, one lists the zipline fee as not included, and on 22 October 2026 the estate said it was closed until further notice. If the zipline is the reason, get a written answer.
Do not read the length as time at the falls. A seven-hour day has about three of them there. And do not expect the shared listing to be the cheaper one: the three shared listings sit above the median of the six that name YS Falls alone.
YS Falls or Dunn's River?
They are different days. Dunn's River is a guided climb of 1 to 1.5 hours, typically 120 to 250 EUR when you leave from Ocho Rios. YS Falls is a swim in pools below seven falls, in the same band but somewhat dearer at the median, and with a longer road. They are also on opposite sides of the island, so you will not do both in one day.
If you are staying on the north coast, the south-coast drive costs you a day. If you are staying in Negril or Montego Bay, both are long drives, and the choice is climb or swim.
