Diamond Circle from Akureyri: Godafoss, Dettifoss, Asbyrgi and Husavik with Lunch Pack
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
AkureyriOne day on the Diamond Circle covers waterfalls, volcanic ground, a canyon and a fishing village. It starts at Akureyri and drives about 30 minutes to Goðafoss, the waterfall of the gods, which can be seen from several viewpoints along a trail. Next comes the Lake Mývatn area, with a photo stop above the lake and a view of the dozens of craters left by ancient eruptions. The Námaskarð geothermal area follows: bare rock, boiling mud pools, hot springs and sulfur steam, with minerals from the water staining the rock and soil in strange colors. At Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall, there are several vantage points. Ásbyrgi is a horseshoe-shaped canyon with cliffs up to 330 feet high on three sides, bird life on the walls and a pond called Botnstjörn at the far end. The last stop is Húsavík, a fishing village known as the whale watching capital of Iceland. There is no time for whales on this day, but about 20 minutes covers the central harbor and its church. The drive back to Akureyri takes one hour and ends at the port. A lunch pack is included in the booking.
