Cruise passengers meet at the Akureyri cruise terminal at the scheduled hour for a six-hour round trip to Goðafoss and Lake Mývatn, two of the most notable natural sites in this part of Iceland. The route follows the Eyjafjörður coast to Goðafoss first, the Waterfall of the Gods. Around Lake Mývatn the volcanic structures include lava pillars, and the lake itself was formed by a large basaltic eruption about 2,300 years ago. The group then visits the Grjótagjá cave and the Hverarönd hot springs at Námaskarð. Free time here can go to the steam baths, a massage or a meal at a local eatery. Admission to the Mývatn thermal baths is paid separately, and so are food and drinks. On the way back there are stops at the Dimmuborgir lava formations and at the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters, and the road runs along Eyjafjörður again, described as the longest fjord in northern Iceland. Pickup at the cruise port and the return transfer are included, as is an English-speaking guide. The excursion ends back at the meeting point in Akureyri.
