Godafoss Cruise Ship Excursion from Akureyri Port via Fnjoskadalur Valley and Viewpoint (4/4)

This shore excursion takes cruise passengers from Akureyri to Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, and back by a different road. Goðafoss is about 12 meters (36 feet) high and 30 meters (90 feet) wide, and its horseshoe shape throws up a constant spray of water and mist. The group gets about 45 minutes at the falls to walk around and take photos. The return does not repeat the outbound route. It climbs through the Fnjóskadalur valley, crosses the mountains and drops to Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland, ringed by snow-capped peaks. Just before Akureyri there is a photo stop at the Akureyri Viewpoint, with the town, the bay and the mountains laid out below. The whole outing takes between two and a half and three hours, and the guide talks about the history and culture of northern Iceland along the way. The meeting point is the Tangabryggja harbor, where a Soleil de Minuit Travel agent and the Soleil de Minuit bus mark the spot.
