Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
AkureyriFour hours, three stops and a short drive around Akureyri to finish. Laufas Heritage Site and Museum
The Laufás heritage site has a large farmhouse and a church built in 1865, which keeps a pulpit from 1698. Priests lived here from at least 1047 until 1935, and the current priest still lives on the grounds. The house has long corridors and many linked rooms, and its mid-19th-century buildings are furnished with household items and clothes of the period. The Bridal room is where brides got ready for the wedding. The visitor centre has displays on the nature, wildlife and history of the area, a handcraft and souvenir shop, and refreshments. The old turf house belongs to the National Museum's Historic Buildings Collection.

Christmas Garden
Open all year, the Christmas House and its garden look like a page from a fairy tale. The garden hides small things to find. Inside, a log fire, festive songs and seasonal scents are on even in midsummer, and Gryla, the troll mother of the Icelandic Yule Lads, is tucked away in her cave. Every corner is decorated, so it pays to look around slowly. The shop next door sells local jams to taste and souvenirs to take home. It is a good place to hear about local Christmas traditions.
