Half-Day Small Group from Akureyri: Godafoss, Hverir, Grjotagja Cave and Dimmuborgir
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
AkureyriA half-day guided tour from Akureyri with five stops, starting at the Special Tours Whale Watching office. Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods on the Skjálfandafljót river, comes first, with scenic paths to stroll along the falls. Hverir follows, a geothermal area of steaming vents, boiling mud pools and sulfur-stained ground. Grjótagjá is a small lava cave with a bright blue geothermal hot spring, made famous by Game of Thrones. At Dimmuborgir, the Dark Castles, the walk passes towering pillars, arches and caves, and the guide tells the local folklore: in Icelandic legend the area is home to elves and hidden people, with a king of the elves said to live in the tallest lava towers. The last stop is Skútustaðir, where a cluster of pseudocraters formed by volcanic activity meeting water looks out over Lake Mývatn. Transport and a guide are included. Guests should be at the office at least 15 minutes before the tour begins.
