Small-Group Godafoss and Geitafoss Tour from Akureyri Cruise Terminal with Fjord Viewpoint
Godafoss is the headline, but this small-group run from Akureyri also takes in Geitafoss, a smaller waterfall a few hundred meters downstream. The tour starts at the Akureyri cruise terminal and crosses northern Iceland with commentary along the road. At Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, the Skjálfandafljót river drops over rugged cliffs in a churn of white water and mist. The name ties to the year 1000, when the chieftain Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði threw his idols into the water as Iceland turned to Christianity. Viewing platforms and nearby trails give different angles on the falls. The drive back to Akureyri passes rolling hills, mountains and valleys, with villages and rivers along the way. Just before town there is a picture stop at a viewpoint with panoramic views of the fjord and the city. The tour ends where it began, at the Akureyri Cruise Terminal. Guides greet passengers at the bus parking lot by the cruise port for ships docking at Tangabryggja Pier.

Godafoss
Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, is where the Skjálfandafljót river tumbles over rugged cliffs in churning white water and mist. It is linked to Iceland's conversion to Christianity in 1000, when the chieftain Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði threw his idols into the falls. Visitors can use the viewing platforms or hike nearby trails. The stop also takes in Geitafoss, a smaller waterfall a few hundred meters downstream.
