Winter Combo from Akureyri: Godafoss, Christmas House and Forest Lagoon Soak
A winter day with three set pieces: a waterfall in its winter clothing, a Christmas house and a geothermal soak. The tour leaves Akureyri and drives 35 minutes through snowy country to Goðafoss, where the group hikes around the falls for 40 minutes and learns the legend of the waterfall and its role in Icelandic history. Back in Eyjafjörður, about 45 minutes of driving along the fjord leads to the Christmas House and garden, which looks like a page from a book of fairy tales. The group stays 30 minutes, and Grýla, the troll mother of the Icelandic Yule Lads, is hidden in her cave. A 15-minute drive follows to the Forest Lagoon, just outside Akureyri, which opened in summer 2022. It has a bistro, two infinity pools, swim-up bars, a cold tub and a sauna, and the pools are filled with geothermal water from the mountain behind the lagoon. The soak lasts a good hour, with a view over the fjord, before the return to Akureyri. Pickup starts 15 minutes before departure, in vehicles marked The Traveling Viking.
