This day combines river trekking, floating and caving along the Arenales River, with greenish blue pools, limestone canyons and rock formations carved by the river. Optional cliff jumping of 8 to 20 feet is available. After a few minutes of walking downhill, the group reaches the river and swims through a small canyon, then trekking and floating continue before a trail leads to caves with flowstone formations, bats and a waterfall. An early start keeps the crowds away, and smaller groups follow a certified guide. Lunch is at a local restaurant serving Puerto Rican food, and the cost is not included. The day ends with a short hike in a Nature Reserve in Manatí to a small hidden natural spring with clear water, while the guide talks about the local plants and trees. The tour requires good physical fitness, balance, flexibility, river trekking skills and basic swimming skills. Closed, sturdy water or hiking shoes are required.

  1. Vega Baja

The adventure starts quickly. After a few minutes of walking downhill, the group reaches the river, where it forms greenish blue pools, and swims through a small canyon carved by the river over thousands of years. Guests float through the canyon, then do some river trekking. Optional cliff jumping runs from 8 to 20 feet, and a boulder gives access to the upper part of the canyon. An off-the-beaten-path trail then leads to caves with flowstone formations, bats and a waterfall. Good physical condition and basic swimming skills are required.

  2. Manati

Lunch at a local restaurant with a good selection of authentic Puerto Rican food at reasonable prices (cost not included).

  3. Manati

A short trail in a Nature Reserve leads to a small hidden natural spring, with a chance to learn about the local plants and trees. The spring is an oasis in the middle of the forest, with clear water, and a refreshing way to end the day before heading back.
