This two-day trip from Boston is built around the falls after dark. The coach reaches Niagara Falls State Park in the evening, and the night walk follows the park's pathways out to Ram Island and Moon Island, with Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls lit in changing colors. Mist, light and noise make the place feel nothing like it does by day. The group then sleeps in a hotel in the Niagara Falls and Buffalo area; the listed options are Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls NY-Riverside, Buffalo Marriott Niagara and Aloft Buffalo Airport, or similar. Day 2 is optional. The Niagara Falls Classic Tour adds Whirlpool State Park, the Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist boat ride, which runs in season only and is closed in winter. Taken together, the two days show the falls from above, from beside and from beneath, before the return to Boston. Pick-ups leave Quincy at 6:45 AM, Boston at 7:30 AM and Framingham at 7:45 AM. Framingham is pick-up only, so the return trip uses the Natick Service Plaza Eastbound instead.

  1. Boston

The coach leaves Boston and heads for Niagara Falls, with the scenery changing along the way. The long ride is a chance to rest, and it is timed to arrive in the evening, when the falls look their most dramatic after dark.

  2. Niagara Falls State Park

Niagara Falls State Park: Night View Tour. Once the sun has set, the park turns into a night stage for the falls. Walkways lead deep into the grounds and give a clear view of the lit water and the land around it.

  3. Niagara Falls

Ram Island: Night View Tour. This small island sits between Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls. Close to the rushing water, the scale and movement of the lit cascade are easy to take in, and the spot suits photos.

  4. Niagara Falls

Moon Island: Night View Tour. Between American Falls and Horseshoe Falls, this island gives a wide view of several falls at once, with mist, colored light and the sound of rushing water all around.

  5. Niagara Falls

Horseshoe Falls: Night View Tour. The largest and strongest of the three falls is the centerpiece of the evening. Lit in changing colors, its curved drop looks even bigger in the dark.

  6. Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls: Night View Tour. Narrower and softer than its neighbors, Bridal Veil Falls glows under focused light at night, and the fine detail of the falling water stands out.

  7. Niagara Falls

American Falls: Night View Tour. The third of the trio is a broad curtain of water. Lit from below, the texture of the flow and the rocks around it show more clearly, which closes the night walk.

  8. Buffalo

After the night tour, the evening is free for rest. Hotel: Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls NY-Riverside, Buffalo Marriott Niagara, Aloft Buffalo Airport, or similar.

  9. Niagara Falls

Whirlpool Park: Niagara Falls Classic Tour (optional). The overlook faces the Niagara River's Class 6 rapids, where the river turns sharply and forms a huge natural whirlpool. It shows the speed and force of the water from a lesser-seen angle.

  10. Cave of the Winds

Cave of the Winds: Niagara Falls Classic Tour (optional). Guests walk down onto wooden platforms only feet from Bridal Veil Falls. The thunder, the cool mist and the nearness of the cascade give a feel for its power that viewpoints cannot.

    Extra fee

  11. Niagara Falls

Maid of the Mist (seasonal): Niagara Falls Classic Tour (optional). The boat sails into the misty basin below the falls for a view of Horseshoe Falls from the water, with spray and roar all around. It does not run during the winter closure.

  12. Boston

The optional Niagara Falls Classic Tour, with Whirlpool State Park, Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist (season permitting), ends the trip. The coach then returns to Boston. By then the falls have been seen lit at night and close up by day.
