Three ways to do one day: the tour is designed for guests who ride a motorbike themselves, and two alternatives exist for those who do not want to or cannot. Riding legally in Vietnam requires a valid International Motorbike Driving Permit and a signed liability waiver before departure. Anyone without a permit, or who prefers not to ride, should check the "What's Excluded" section for the other options and contact the operator at least 24 hours before departure to choose. The day starts at 7:30 with the local guide and a Cao Bang breakfast of rice rolls, roasted duck noodles or sour pho. The route leaves Cao Bang City at 8:00 through the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark and stops at Ma Phuc Pass, a limestone gateway and viewpoint. At 9:00 the group walks into Dia Tren, a Nung village of stilt houses where local families make paper by hand and guests can try making their own. Truc Lam Ban Gioc Zen Monastery comes at 11:40, with a climb to a viewpoint over the waterfall. After lunch at a local restaurant, Ban Gioc is visited at 13:00. An optional boat goes closer to the falls and to the border in the middle of the river. The afternoon follows the Quay Son River through Phong Nam Valley, then reaches Angel Eye Mountain at 16:00, named for the large hole in its center and set in grassland where horses and buffalo graze. The return to Cao Bang City is at 17:00. Transfers from Hanoi, Ha Giang, Ninh Binh or Ha Long can be arranged on request.
