Eight-Hour Waterfalls and Wine Tour: Multnomah Falls, Hood River, Vineyards
An eight-hour day that mixes waterfalls with wine in the Columbia Gorge AVA. It suits travellers who want scenic nature stops with light trail walking and a vineyard visit in the same trip. The drive follows the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway. Vista House comes first, one of the first rest areas in the country, on a 720-foot cliff with panoramic Gorge views and, in normal times, a gift shop, coffee shop and public restrooms. The first waterfall is Latourell Falls, a few minutes from the parking lot, where visitors can get close to the geometric basalt rocks. Multnomah Falls, at 620 feet Oregon's most famous waterfall, draws millions of visitors a year and has a gift shop, restrooms and restaurant in its historic lodge during normal hours. Lunch is in the historic downtown of Hood River, a town with many restaurants and breweries that ranks among the world's top windsurfing destinations. The wine part of the day is at two vineyards in the Gorge, Anie Che Cellars first and Cathedral Ridge Winery second. All sales are final, with no refund for cancellations.
