Guided Northeast Tour from Vista dos Barcos to Salto da Farinha, Lunch Included
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Ponta DelgadaThe northeast is one of the best-known parts of the Azores, a quiet area of clean air, steep mountains and long sea views. The tour is aimed at people who want nature tourism, and it crosses valleys, mountains, waterfalls and streams on the island of São Miguel. The route runs through Miradouro da Vista dos Barcos and Miradouro da Ponta do Arnel, viewpoints looking toward the Arnel lighthouse, a known spot for watching whales and dolphins from the coast. Next comes Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, in Achada, with its large waterfall and five 16th-century water mills declared of public interest. Ponta do Sossego follows, with gardens of 13,000 square meters, and the day closes at the 40-meter Salto da Farinha waterfall.

Miradouro Da Vista Dos Barcos
Miradouro da Vista dos Barcos is on the east coast of São Miguel, in Nordeste. It looks out over the sea and the Arnel lighthouse, a place to watch cetaceans from shore. It stands between two other viewpoints, one of them Ponta do Arnel, close enough to visit all three the same day.
-
Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes
This park in Achada, Nordeste, is known for its large waterfall and five 16th-century water mills, some still working. It follows the Guilherme river, where canyoning is possible. A walk takes about 2 hours. The forest shelters endemic birds such as the priolo, and there is a picnic area.
-
Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego
Ponta do Sossego looks over the north coast and part of the northeastern mountains, including Fajã do Araújo and Ponta da Marquesa. It was remodeled in 1995 and has a 13,000 square meter garden on several levels, with palms, flowers and shrubs. A picnic area and small shop are at the entrance.
-
Farol do Arnel
The Miradouro da Ponta do Arnel has a panoramic view of the Arnel lighthouse, the Nordeste harbour and steep coastal cliffs. In the evening it is a meeting point for local people. The slope to the lighthouse is steep, so some cars park below and walk up.
-
Cascata do Salto da Farinha
A waterfall 40 meters high.
