Three destinations in four days: Niagara Falls, Washington DC and Boston, starting from several pickup points in Manhattan, Queens and Jersey City. Booking at least seven days ahead is recommended because hotel rooms can run short. Niagara comes first. The route takes in Watkins Glen State Park, where a gorge trail passes 19 waterfalls along two miles, or the Corning Museum of Glass, with more than 3,500 years of glass and an Innovation Center. The Niagara Falls night tour follows, and Whirlpool State Park, whose whirlpool reaches 125 feet at its deepest, is also on the route. In summer tours the Maid of the Mist goes into the spray at the foot of the falls; in winter tours, when the boat is closed, the Cave of the Winds and Old Fort Niagara take its place. Washington DC brings a guided visit of the US Capitol, the White House seen from outside, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which lists over 58,000 names. Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, the 55-acre Old City district called America's most historic square mile, is on the route. Boston is the last stop: a Firsts Tour of its historic milestones, a 3-hour city tour that includes Harvard University and the Old State House, built in 1713, and a stop at Quincy Market for souvenirs and food before the return to New York.

Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia preserves the Revolutionary War sites. The 55-acre park in the Old City district is known as America's most historic square mile.

  2. U.S. Capitol

The US Capitol is one of the most symbolic and impressive buildings in the country, and has housed the House of Representatives and the Senate for two centuries. A professional escort guides the visit.

    Extra fee

  3. The White House

The White House is the official residence of the president and the place where most of the work gets done. Its neoclassical facade is a global icon. Seen from outside.

  4. Lincoln Memorial

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, as the Civil War was ending. By March 1867 Congress had incorporated the Lincoln Monument Association to build his memorial. The visit covers the statue, murals and inscriptions.

  5. Vietnam Veterans Memorial

North of the Lincoln Memorial, near the intersection of 22nd St. The memorial lists the names of over 58,000 servicemen and women who died in the Vietnam conflict, and includes The Three Servicemen statue and the Vietnam Women's Memorial. Since its dedication in 1982, visitors have left offerings here.

  6. Corning Museum of Glass

A museum of glass art with over 3,500 years of glass from Asia, Europe, America and elsewhere. It has an Innovation Center with interactive science and research displays and a 35 Centuries of Glass gallery.

    Extra fee

  7. Watkins Glen State Park

The park cuts a gorge into the hillside, a cavern-like network of rock formations. In two miles the stream drops 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, with 19 waterfalls along the way.

    Extra fee

  8. Niagara Falls State Park

Niagara Falls night tour. Niagara Falls is three waterfalls, not one, and its park is the oldest state park in the United States.

  9. Whirlpool State Park

The Niagara Whirlpool is 125 feet deep at its greatest. It is estimated to have formed about 7,500 years ago, when the Niagara River eroded the Niagara escarpment upstream.

    Extra fee

  11. *Only in Summer tours

Summer tours only. Height and volume make Niagara what it is: more than 6 million cubic feet (168,000 cubic meters) of water goes over the crest every minute at peak daytime hours. The Maid of the Mist takes passengers as close to the falls as a boat can go, into the mist the cascade throws up.

    Extra fee

  12. Old Fort Niagara State Historic Site

Winter tours only. Old Fort Niagara spans more than 300 years, and its position on the lake gave it a part in the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Lake Ontario lies behind the fort.

    Extra fee

  13. Boston

Boston mixes deep history with youthful energy, thanks in part to its universities and its many historical firsts. A Firsts Tour covers the city's milestones, then Quincy Market offers heritage, souvenirs and local food before the return to New York.

  14. Quincy Market

Quincy Market, in the Faneuil Hall marketplace of downtown Boston, is a historic building that is still a souvenir market and food court. The area has grown to include two more market buildings.

  16. Old State House

The Old State House, built in 1713, was the seat of colonial government and played a part in the American Revolution; the Boston Massacre took place nearby. Today it is a museum of Boston's revolutionary history. Part of the 3-hour Boston tour.
