A minibus collects travelers from their Marrakech hotel and drives east through rural Morocco to the Ouzoud Falls. The walk on arrival goes through olive groves that Berber farmers have worked for generations, then drops into the gorge below the waterfalls. At the bottom a path runs along the river, facing the three-tiered falls as they pour into a pool. This is where photographs are taken, and where those who want to can swim in the cool water. An optional boat ride, paid for separately, goes close enough to the cascades to feel the spray. Lunch is at one of the cafes or restaurants that overlook the river, and it is also at the traveler's own expense. After the meal the climb back up the steps begins, with pauses on the way to see the falls from different angles. The pickup point listed for this departure is a riad in the medina, near Café de France on Rue des Banques.

  2. Ouzoud Waterfalls

Ouzoud Falls, the Cascades d'Ouzoud, stand in the High Atlas Mountains about 150 km from Marrakech and rank among the most remarkable natural wonders of the range. At 110 meters they are the highest waterfalls in North Africa. Paths down to the bottom run through groves of olive trees and give good views of the falls and the surroundings. Other paths lead to the top, where many grain mills stand (the falls take their name from them), and from there the view looks straight down on the cascades.
