A private tour of the Columbia River Gorge for one traveller or a pair, from Portland, built around Multnomah Falls and the waterfalls and viewpoints along the Historic Columbia River Highway. No other guests share the vehicle. The day starts at the Portland Women's Forum viewpoint, where Vista House shows in the distance across the Gorge, and morning light is the best time for photographs. Vista House itself is next, a historic observation point, and shots from inside the building frame its architecture against the landscape. A short hike on an easy 0.6-mile loop leads to Latourell Falls, which drops 249 feet beside basalt columns. Shepperd's Dell has a waterfall and a historic stone bridge, and Bridal Veil Falls is a short forest walk to a two-tier fall. Parking availability decides whether Bridal Veil or Wahkeena Falls is visited; Wahkeena falls 242 feet in rocky tiers and has a nearby trail with a view. Horsetail Falls drops into a natural pool where families and children can get close. Multnomah Falls, at 620 feet the tallest waterfall in Oregon, comes last: the upper drop is 542 feet and the lower 69 feet, fed by Larch Mountain spring water. A short, easy hike goes to Benson Bridge, and there is time for lunch at the Multnomah Falls Lodge, built in 1925 at the base of the falls.
