This tour is private. The group, from 4 to 22 people, travels alone and is never mixed with other travellers. The hike in Tenorio Volcano National Park and the visit to the reserve move at the group's own pace, and the day does not end at a fixed time if the group has not finished. Staffing depends on group size. Up to 4 guests, the guide also drives. From 6 guests, a separate driver takes the wheel so the guide stays with the group, and groups over 18 get two guides and a driver. The vehicle is matched to the group: an SUV for 4, a van for 6 or 10, and a 26-seat van capped at 22 passengers. The operator is 506 Transfers and Tours, which also runs transfers, day tours and ATV routes. Its guides are local and have walked this trail for years.

  1. Rio Celeste

Views of the Celeste River and its waterfall, with a hike in Tenorio Volcano National Park.

  2. Bijagua de Upala

    Stop for lunch.

  3. Bijagua Ranas

Bijagua Ranas lets visitors see Costa Rican wildlife in a natural setting without trekking deep into the jungle. Past visitors have spotted sloths, toucans, frogs, a very poisonous snake, a large group of leaf cutter ants and a beehive of tiny bees buried in a tree. The trails are relatively flat and easy, though a few sections have narrow metal steps. Most paths have gravel added so they are not slippery.
