Private Split to Plitvice Lakes Day Tour with Local Guide and Electric Boat (5/5)

This private tour runs from Split to Plitvice Lakes National Park and back, with a local guide for the park itself. The group sees most of the lakes and waterfalls, and round-trip transport from Split and its surroundings is part of the price along with all activities. The day begins in the morning with a drive through the Croatian hinterland. In the park the route starts with a train ride around the Upper Lakes, then continues on foot along the forest trails to the lakeside views of 16 cascading lakes joined by travertine barriers. The guide is licensed and has more than 10 years of experience. A boat takes the group to the Lower Lakes, and a cruise on the lower lake runs in an electric boat. The Upper Lakes are a series of twelve connected lakes that change color with the minerals in the water and the microorganisms living in it, so the park keeps evolving. The Lower Lakes sit in a limestone canyon where the highest rocks reach about 40 meters. The visit builds toward the Great Waterfall, Veliki Slap, the tallest in Croatia. All sales are final and no refund is available for cancellations.

Plitvice Lakes National Park has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979.

  2. The Upper Lakes

The guide meets the group in the park and the visit opens with a train ride around the Upper Lakes. The licensed guide has more than 10 years of experience. The walk covers the twelve linked lakes known as the Upper Lakes (Gornja Jezera). Their color shifts with the minerals in the water and the microorganisms in it, which keeps the lakes changing. The walk goes on through the park until it reaches the boat that crosses to the Lower Lakes (Donja Jezera).

  3. The Lower Lakes

The Lower Lakes lie in a canyon of permeable limestone, with rocks up to about 40 meters high. A travertine cascade between Kaluđerovac and Novakovića Brod lakes forms the path that leads down from Entrance 1 to the Veliki Slap waterfall, and then on around the Lower Lakes toward Kozjak Lake. The high point of the tour is the Great Waterfall, Veliki Slap, the tallest in Croatia.
