Plitvice Lakes tour from Split: 20 day trips, from under 60 to more than 1,000 EUR
Three listings sell the same 11 to 12-hour day in the 60 to 120 EUR band, and none includes the park ticket.
Three listings from Split sell the same 11 to 12-hour Plitvice Lakes day at roughly 60 to 120 EUR, and together they hold 8,710 of the 9,986 reviews on this page. None of them includes the park ticket. In summer the adult ticket costs more than in any other season, enough to push the coach day past the listing that already has the ticket in its price, so that one turns out slightly cheaper from June to September. That is the logic of the whole page: 20 listings from under 60 to more than 1,000 EUR, 13 of them private, and one question that decides every comparison. The road is three to four hours each way, which means six to eight hours in a vehicle for three or four at the lakes. What follows says whether that trade is worth it from Split, and how to book it without paying twice.
The lakes themselves, the rules inside the park and the seasons for entry are on the Plitvice Lakes page, and this one keeps to the Split departure. If you sleep in Zagreb or Zadar the same lakes are about two hours away instead of three or four, and each city has its own page. If you only have a minute, read the ticket table and the chart first; the sections after them cover the formats, the operators and the mistakes that cost people money.

What a Plitvice Lakes tour from Split includes
The standard product is a coach or minibus, an English-speaking guide and a boat ride on the lakes. The park ticket is not in it. The Booker listing, the biggest of the three with 3,860 reviews, lists the park under "not included". The Gray Line listing says the voucher covers the bus only and that you pay the entrance in cash at check-in. The Šugaman listing says the same, and adds an instruction that surprises people: do not buy tickets in advance, because the operator holds a group ticket.
Meeting points are in Split, mostly on the Riva or at the Booker office on Marulićeva, and you are asked to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early. Some departures also collect in Trogir and Omiš, and Šugaman offers a hotel pickup in part of Split on request. Booker sells a cheaper variant in the 30 to 60 EUR band, self-guided, with transport, boat and train but no guide.
At the standard group price the Plitvice day from Split is a bus seat with a guide. The park is a separate bill.
The ticket decides the price
| Listing | Price band | Park ticket | Summer | Spring, autumn | Winter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booker, Gray Line or Šugaman group day, 11 to 12 hours | 60 to 120 EUR | Extra, paid in cash | Slightly dearer | A little cheaper | Cheaper |
| Booker self-guided day with boat ride, 12 hours | 30 to 60 EUR | Extra unless an option adds it | Slightly cheaper | Cheaper | Clearly cheaper |
| Tours in Croatia group day with ticket, 12 hours | 60 to 120 EUR | Included | Unchanged | Unchanged | Unchanged |
Read across the table. The listing with the ticket included wins narrowly in June to September, loses by a little in spring and autumn and by more in winter. It also sells the one thing the others do not: a guaranteed entry. Park tickets are sold by time slot, you can enter up to an hour late but not early, and an operator that holds a pre-booked group slot spares you the question. Gray Line prints a spring ticket price in its listing that is a little lower than the one on the park's 2026 list. Carry more cash than the listing says.
Seasons
Why the season changes the day
The photo is Plitvice in autumn, with leaves on the steps. The Split listings ask for comfortable shoes and, outside summer, warm clothes and an umbrella, and one of them adds that the weather at the lakes can differ from the weather on the coast.
The bigger change is in winter. From 1 November to 31 March operators in Zagreb say the panoramic vehicle and the electric boats do not run and only the Lower Lakes can be visited. A 12-hour day with six to eight hours on the road is a poor trade for a half-open park, even with the park ticket at its winter low. Book Split trips for April to October, and read the Plitvice Lakes page for the months.
Where 12 hours go
| Part of the day | Hours | What the listings say |
|---|---|---|
| Drive out | 3 to 4 | One listing says a three-hour drive; allow more in summer traffic |
| Park | 3 to 4 | The time between arrival and the meeting point for the return |
| Stops | about 1 | A coffee break on the way and a lunch stop, both at your expense |
| Drive back | 3 to 4 | The same road in the other direction |
The 12-hour listings leave around 7:00 and are back in the evening. The short ones, from 6 to 8 hours, are all private, and a private driver leaves when you do, not when a coach fills. You will spend more hours seated than walking, and the walk is why you came.
Price by length
Two clusters and a gap
Each mark is a listing, placed by length and price. The seven group trips, in blue, sit together at 10 to 12 hours and roughly 30 to 250 EUR. The 13 private ones, in orange, scatter from under 250 to more than 1,000 EUR, and every day of 8 hours or less is among them.
The median of all 20 sits between the two clusters and describes neither. Split has a cheap product and an expensive one, with almost nothing in the middle, so read the chart by shape and ignore the average.
Group, small group or private from Split
| Format | Listings | Price band | Hours | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shared coach with a guide | 4 | 60 to 120 EUR | 11 to 12 | Up to 30 travelers per booking, park ticket extra except one |
| Self-guided day | 1 | 30 to 60 EUR | 12 | Transport, boat and train, no guide |
| Smaller or lesser-known group trips | 2 | Roughly 60 to 250 EUR | 10 to 12 | One is a small group; 29 and 5 reviews, so thin evidence |
| Private | 13 | Under 250 to more than 1,000 EUR | 6 to 11 | A vehicle and a driver or guide; 4 of the 13 quote one price for the group; ticket extra in the two we opened |
Private tours from Split are priced per person, like the coach seats. Only four quote one price for the whole group, all of them above 500 EUR, and the Booker private day for up to 15 travelers is one of them, in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band. For those, divide by your party; for the rest, multiply. A private day in the 250 to 500 EUR band is that price for each traveler, more than three times what the coach costs in summer with the ticket added, for eight hours instead of twelve. Check the "up to" number in the listing and the total at checkout before you do either sum. The top of the range is a full-day private tour above 1,000 EUR with 17 reviews, and nothing in its title separates it from the listings in the 250 to 500 EUR band beside it, so we cannot say what the extra money buys.
Who runs these trips
Seventeen operators sell the 20 listings, but the reviews are not spread out. Booker holds 4,573 of the 9,986 reviews over three listings (46%). The three biggest listings, Booker's 3,860, Gray Line Croatia's 2,546 and Šugaman Tours' 2,304, hold 8,710, or 87%, and the other 17 listings share 1,276. Thirteen listings have fewer than 30 reviews, and ten of those show a perfect 5.0, which tells you very little: a 5.0 on five reviews is not comparable with a 4.9 on 3,860. If you want a private driver, the ratings are close to noise, and the things to compare are the "up to" number, what is included and the cancellation terms. One transfer listing, for example, states that all sales are final.
Where the Split trip goes wrong
The first is comparing the coach price with the one that includes the ticket and stopping there. The second is buying a park ticket on your own for an operator that holds a group slot, then standing at a gate with a slot the bus will not meet. The third is booking a long coach day for winter. The fourth is expecting lunch: only 2 of the 20 listings include it, both private, and Gray Line and Šugaman both list food and drinks as not included. The fifth is booking "Split to Zagreb via Plitvice" and expecting a tour. It is a one-way private transfer in the 250 to 500 EUR band with a three-hour stop, and the guide and the ticket are not included.
That transfer is still useful if you are moving to Zagreb anyway. The reverse, from Zagreb, is on the Plitvice Lakes tours from Zagreb page, and Zadar's day trips, which are shorter and mostly cheaper on paper, are on the Zadar page.
What people ask about the Split trip
How long does the Plitvice Lakes tour from Split take?
The group trips are listed at 11 to 12 hours door to door, with three to four hours of that inside the park. The drive is three to four hours each way. Private tours can be shorter, from 6 to 8 hours, because the driver does not wait for a coach to fill, but you still travel six hours or more on the road.
Is the park ticket included in a Plitvice Lakes tour from Split?
Mostly no. The three standard coach listings leave it out and ask for cash. One group listing includes it, in the same 60 to 120 EUR band. To compare like with like, add the park ticket for your month: it costs most in summer and least in winter, so check the current tariff.
Is Plitvice worth it as a day trip from Split?
It works if Plitvice is the single reason for the day. You trade six to eight hours of driving for three or four at the lakes, and the coach keeps a fixed schedule. If you can spare a night, sleeping nearer the park or leaving from Zagreb or Zadar gives you more time on the paths for the same money.
Can I go to Plitvice from Split without a tour?
Yes, with a rental car. Book a time-slot ticket online, since you can enter up to an hour after your slot but never before. You will cover the drive, tolls and parking yourself, which the group listing with the ticket included covers in its price. The tour is mostly worth it if you do not want to drive six to eight hours.
When is the best time for a Plitvice day trip from Split?
April to October. The ticket is cheaper in spring and autumn than in summer, and the full circuit with boat and train runs. In winter the boats stop and only part of the park opens, which makes a 12-hour day poor value. The Plitvice Lakes page has the month by month view.
Not sure about three hours each way?
The Plitvice Lakes page sets Split against Zagreb and Zadar, where the same lakes are about two hours from the road.
