Sunset Waterfall Shuttle: Multnomah Falls and Vista House at Dusk, Small Group
Waterfall Shuttle times this small-group tour of the Columbia River Gorge so that the last stop, Crown Point Vista House, falls at sunset. The route covers the Gorge's top five waterfalls and is led by a guide. The operator says views are better and crowds lower than elsewhere. Of the 3.5 hours, 2.5 are spent on foot in the waterfall state parks, with time for photographs. At Horsetail Falls the group can swim in a popular local swimming hole under the 176-foot fall on a warm day, or watch from the several viewing areas. At Multnomah Falls a reserved front-row parking spot saves time, and that time goes on the walk up to Benson Bridge, an ice cream and the gift shop at Oregon's tallest waterfall. Wahkeena Falls is a half-mile round trip to the spray, and Shepperd's Dell is a 1915 rest stop with a tall bridge over a narrow chasm and a 100-yard walk to the best view. Latourell Falls, in a park that was once a fishing town, is a local favourite. The day closes at Crown Point with the sunset colours over the water, the mountains and Portland in the distance. The route and itinerary can change with road and weather conditions.
