Dunn's River Falls and Park
Dunn's River Falls is one of Jamaica's national treasures, as well known worldwide as reggae. The Arawak called the land Xayamaca, land of rivers and springs, and the Spaniards named it Las Chorreras. The falls sit a short drive from Ocho Rios and keep growing, rebuilding themselves from travertine rock deposited as the river's calcium carbonate settles. The small dome-shaped cascades are usually tied to thermal spring activity in limestone caves, and with the sea so close this makes Dunn's River the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, if not the world.
