Banff Day Trip: Two Hours at Johnston Canyon Upper Falls, Bow Falls, Optional Gondola
The day is organised around timed stops, and the longest one is Johnston Canyon. Pickup is in Calgary, Canmore or Banff, and the group spends 120 minutes at the canyon, on a forested trail to the Upper Falls. The canyon is carved into limestone by thousands of years of water erosion, with overhanging walls, waterfalls and forest along the way. Back in Banff town there are 45 minutes for lunch. An add-on lunch at Seoul Country Restaurant can be booked as an option. After that come two 15 minute stops: Bow Falls, where the river roars in summer and the Banff Hoodoos ("Devil's Rock") can be seen nearby, and Surprise Corner, a viewpoint over the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The Banff Gondola is an optional add-on, 90 minutes in all. The ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain takes 8 minutes and climbs to 7,486 feet (2,281 m), where there are dining options, hiking trails and observation decks over the town and the Rockies. A winter Gondola add-on also exists. The tour then returns to Banff, Canmore or Calgary for drop-off.
