This day trip from San Juan packs a tropical river, waterfalls, cave swimming and a little archeology and history into one outing. Guests swim through caves, pass under cool waterfalls and can jump from cliffs ranging from 8 to 27 feet, which is optional. The area is almost undiscovered, so unlike El Yunque, where hundreds of people can show up in a single day, it is mostly locals and the guests who come with this operator. The drive from the meeting point to the rainforest caves takes about one hour. Along the way the route leaves the tourist area for the rural side of Puerto Rico, where locals live close to nature, and the scenery on the drive and on the hike is a highlight. Once the adventure begins, the guides lead the group through the jungle. They grew up doing this and know the area well. The visit to Charco Azul includes the Arenales Caves as well. The meeting point is in front of Crush Juice Bar on Ashford Avenue.
