Charco Prieto is a hidden waterfall reached on a 5-hour outing that leaves the usual tourist path behind. The route follows the Charco Prieto river through tropical forest, over natural terrain and across streams, and ends at a waterfall where guests can cool off and take photos in a secluded setting. The guided walk is about 30 minutes in and out. This is an active day, not a casual stop. The trail can be steep, muddy, rocky and slippery depending on recent weather, so participants should be physically fit, comfortable outdoors and able to walk on uneven ground. Expect to get wet and dirty. After the hike the group eats at El Rincon, 11 minutes from the waterfall by transportation, where the menu includes mofongo, empanadillas or fresh seafood with refreshing drinks. The tour suits nature lovers, adventurous travelers and photographers who want a rougher, more authentic waterfall day. The meeting point is Distrito T-Mobile in San Juan.
