The Cordillera Central is the spine of Puerto Rico, about 3,000 feet above sea level, and this day trip works through its waterfalls and viewpoints. The first stop is Chorro de Doña Juana, a waterfall on the border of Villalba and Orocovis that the driver reaches by crossing the Toro Verde forest. Las Delicias follows, with a short hike led by a certified guide to a swimming hole under the falls. Rio La Planta is a waterfall just a 5 minute easy hike away where guests can take a dip. In Toro Negro State Forest, which crosses the center of the mountain range, the route includes the El Banquillo sightseeing area, the Charco de los Suspiros waterfall for another swim, and the Toro Negro river in the barrio known as the Swiss of Puerto Rico. A single-origin coffee farm, open on weekends, lets guests learn about and taste gourmet Puerto Rican coffee. Between the stops, the day covers mountain culture and local food.
