El Salto Waterfall Rappelling and Zipline Day Trip in Carite State Forest

This full-day trip heads to the Carite State Forest, about 45 minutes from San Juan, for two things: three zipline runs and an 80-foot rappel down El Salto Waterfall. On the drive, the guide talks about the Taino heritage of the island and the sugar cane industry, pointing out valleys and plantation ruins along the way. Groups are small, with a maximum of 12 people per booking, and guiding is in English or Spanish. The price includes a helmet, harness and the climbing and rappelling gear, plus transportation from the meeting point. Lunch is a home-cooked meal in a mountain setting, usually rice, beans and chicken (sometimes pork), with drinking water served during the meal. A vegetarian option is available if requested at booking. Participants must be at least 12 years old and in good physical and medical condition, and children need an adult with them. The harnesses limit weight to 220 pounds, in proportion to height. Closed-toe hiking sandals, old sneakers or water shoes all work, along with quick-dry clothes. The route involves wading, steep ledges and uneven, slippery ground, so it does not suit wheelchair users or travelers with walking disabilities.
