Erawan Falls, JEATH Museum and Kwai Bridge Group Day Trip from Bangkok
Kanchanaburi Province is about three hours by road from Bangkok each way, so much of this day is spent travelling, and the stops are chosen to repay that. The first is the JEATH War Museum, which tells the story of the Burma Railway, also called the Death Railway, built during World War II by prisoners of war and forced laborers in extremely harsh conditions. Next comes the Bridge on the River Kwai, the historic landmark that spans the Kwai Yai River. The last and longest stop is Erawan National Park, where seven tiers of emerald-green waterfalls fall through tropical forest. There is time to walk the trails or swim in the natural pools, so pack swimwear, a towel and proper walking shoes. The day runs about 12 hours. Depending on the number of participants, the group leaves the meeting point between 6:30 and 7:15, and the exact time arrives by private message on the booking platform the day before. Pickup is on Khaosan Road or at Silom MRT Station. Up to 15 travelers can book together, and the day suits all fitness levels. The price covers air-conditioned transport, an English-speaking guide, a bottle of drinking water and entrance fees to the JEATH Museum and Erawan National Park. Lunch and a life jacket at Erawan Falls are not included.

JEATH War Museum
The museum is named for the nations tied to the railway's construction between 1942 and 1943: Japan, England, America, Australia, Thailand and Holland. Inside are tools used on the line and many photographs taken by the prisoners. One of the three photo galleries sits in a bamboo hut, an exact copy of the shelters the prisoners lived in. A bomb dropped by the Allies to destroy the bridge, which never exploded, is also on display. Note: the total time includes the drive from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi.
-
River Khwae Bridge
The iron bridge belonged to a strategic railway to Burma, 415 kilometres long, that ran through the Three Pagodas Pass in Sangkhlaburi District, the northernmost part of Kanchanaburi province. The Japanese Imperial Army brought the bridge from Java during the occupation of Thailand, and Allied prisoners of war reassembled it under Japanese supervision. With the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, it recalls how prisoners of war, Thais, Burmese and Malayans were treated while the line was built. The railway was finished in 16 months, though Japanese engineers had calculated at least 5 years.

Erawan National Park
Erawan National Park was founded in 1975 as Thailand's 12th national park. Its main sight is the seven-tiered Erawan Falls and their emerald-green pools, named after the three-headed elephant of Hindu mythology because the top cascade resembles it. There is time to swim in the middle of the jungle or, weather permitting, to walk up to the top level. Bring swimwear and a towel. Note: the total time includes the drive back from Kanchanaburi to Bangkok.
