Fortuna River Waterfall Reserve Hike from La Fortuna with Hotel Pickup and Fruit Snack

A five-minute ride from the hotel in La Fortuna leads to the Fortuna River Waterfall Reserve, where a hike of around three hours begins. The reserve sits in a natural area run by the Integral Development Association of La Fortuna, which raises funds for the local community. The forest around the falls belongs to the wider Arenal Volcano National Park and covers 210 acres. First stop is the viewpoint for photos. Then the path drops along about 500 steps to the foot of the falls. With luck, toucans, oropendolas and butterflies show up on the way. At the bottom, the 230-foot fall can be admired from a clear pool fed by waters from the nearby Children's Eternal Rainforest, so swimsuits are worth packing. After the swim the group climbs the steps again, and a snack of fresh fruit waits at the top. The excursion ends with the return to the hotel in La Fortuna.
