Jodipan Colorful Village
The day starts in Surabaya with a drive toward a hotel in the Tumpak Sewu area. On the way the group stops at Jodipan Rainbow Village for photos among the colorful buildings, and the guide explains how the village came to be painted.
-
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
After an early breakfast the drive to Tumpak Sewu takes two hours. A local guide joins the group for one of the most visited waterfalls in Indonesia. Two to three hours at the falls are followed by a transfer to a hotel in the Bromo area, where the rest of the day is open for a stroll around the hotel and the nearby farmland, a look at the daily activities of the Tenggerese people, or simply a rest.
-
National Park Bromo Tengger Semeru
A 4WD vehicle collects the group at 3 am and bumps its way up to Mt. Penanjakan 1, the best spot for the Bromo sunrise. On the way down it crosses the vast sea of sand left by Bromo's eruption, and an easy track of about 30 minutes leads to the peak. From the crater rim the view takes in the active crater, the caldera, Mt. Batok and Mt. Semeru, the highest mountain on Java, and a Hindu temple linked to Majapahit history stands nearby. With luck the Yadnya Kasada ceremony may be taking place, a Tenggerese festival held on the 14th of the Kasada month to honor Sang Hyang Widhi, Roro Anteng, the daughter of the Majapahit king, and Joko Seger, the son of a Brahmin. After breakfast the road leads to the Ijen area in Banyuwangi or Bondowoso for a night in a hotel.
-
Ijen Crater Indonesia
The hotel pickup is at 11:30 pm for the drive to Paltuding. From there an hour of trekking leads to Ijen Crater and the blue fire, the glowing blue rivers of light for which Ijen is known. Afterwards the group explores the crater area and its panorama over the turquoise lake. At 8 am the return starts, to Surabaya, Malang or Ketapang port.
