Full-Day La Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Lava Fields and Relax Termalitas Hot Springs

This long day around La Fortuna starts at the Red Lava office, in front of Relax Termalitas, and packs a lot into one itinerary. The first stop is La Fortuna Waterfall, with 70-meter walls covered in vegetation and big volcanic rocks at the foot of a wide pool. Those who feel brave can swim. The Butterfly Conservatory in Arenal comes next, with four flight atriums, poison dart frogs at close range and rainforest trails that look out over Lake Arenal and the volcano. At Mirador El Silencio, steep steps lead onto a mass of lava rock, and a trail cut through the stones climbs the slopes of Arenal to the highest viewpoint around the volcano. Along the way the route also covers hanging bridges, jungle staircases, a Maleku village, a forest of giant trees and El Lago Verde, with time set aside for wildlife watching. The day closes at Relax Termalitas, a hot spring resort with natural mineral water. Included are the resort entrance, national park and waterfall admission, a bilingual guide (Spanish and English), round-trip hotel transport in the La Fortuna area, a traditional Costa Rican lunch with a drink, a fruit break, a coffee break and a cocktail. Hotel pickup outside central La Fortuna, gratuities, breakfast and dinner are not included. Minimum drinking age is 18, and a booking takes up to 12 travelers.
