Full-Day Materuni Waterfall, Coffee Tour and Chemka Hot Spring, Hotel or Airport Pickup
The day starts early, when a guide collects guests from a hotel or the airport and drives to Materuni village, which lies at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Drive time to the village is about 2 hours. A morning hike runs through tropical rainforest with views over the town below, and ends at the waterfall. The pool at its base is open for a dip if the weather allows. Back in the village the focus shifts to Chagga heritage. Local banana beer and traditionally roasted coffee are part of the visit, and guests can join the coffee-making to the last step. A talk about how coffee is grown lasts about one hour. Lunch with fresh fruit is served at Materuni after a cup of coffee. The afternoon goes to the Kikuletwa hot spring, a pool where small fish nibble at the feet of swimmers. The stop lasts a few hours, with time to rest, chat and swim, and a beer or soft drink at the small bar. In the late afternoon the group drives back, which takes about 2 hours, to the hotel or the airport.
