Materuni Waterfall and Chemka Hot Springs Day Trip with Lunch from Arusha (5/5)

The water of Materuni falls drops 70 meters into its basin, and the path to it sits 2,500 meters above sea level. It climbs through valleys and rainforest-covered hills, past coffee, banana and avocado plots that locals call shambas, the Kiswahili word for farms. Lunch is local and comes after the walk. Then the group is driven to Chemka Hot Springs. The road is bumpy and winding, and the ride takes just over 40 minutes. The afternoon there is spent swimming, resting and sitting in the sun. Anyone who wants a barbecue can have one prepared while they swim. On the way, the route leaves the usual tourist trail and passes busy markets and farms. At the springs there is a rope swing, shade from trees, and local snacks such as chips mayai. The price covers private transport, entry to both Materuni Waterfalls and Kikuletwa Hot Springs, lunch, soda, bottled water, and all fees and taxes. Tips are not included. Pickup is from Nairobi Rd or Makao Mapya in Arusha, and the trip ends at the same points. Up to 6 travelers fit on one booking, and the guide speaks English. Larger groups of more than 10 people are offered a discount.
