Northeast Waterfalls Hiking Tour with Water Mills and Povoação, Sao Miguel

This hike explores the northeast of São Miguel through deep valleys, high volcanic cliffs and viewpoints. It starts in the morning in a small village. The trail crosses forest, passes a sequence of three waterfalls and old water mills, and continues toward the sea. Along the way there is time to rest and cool off in clear water, and to look at native and exotic vegetation. A meal of traditional food is taken at a local restaurant. A van then covers the northeast village and Povoação, the first village on the island and the place where settlement began. The operator points to the area's rare bird species and its original vegetation, in the oldest part of the island.
