Snacks and fresh fruit keep this seven-hour Kulen day light: they are included with bottled water and small fresh towels, while lunch is not listed. Pickup from city hotels is free, between about 7:40 and 8:00 am, and the drive to the mountain takes roughly 1.5 hours in an air-conditioned vehicle. On the mountain the route covers Preah Ang Thom, an 8-meter statue of the reclining Buddha carved into a sandstone boulder with a modern staircase and a shelter, the River of a Thousand Lingas, with about 500 m of riverbed carved with lingas, yoni and a large Vishnu, and the Kulen waterfalls, where guests can swim. On the way back there is a short stop at Preah Dak village to taste a traditional local cake. Guests are dropped at their hotels between roughly 4 and 5 pm. An English-speaking guide goes along. The Kulen entrance fee is bought on site and is not included, and neither are tips for the guide and driver or travel insurance. Up to 15 travelers per booking, and the tour suits all fitness levels.

  1. Siem Reap

Pickup from the hotel in Siem Reap runs from about 7:40 to 8:00 am in an air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to the mountain takes around 1.5 hours across the countryside. The day covers the Reclining Buddha, the River of a Thousand Lingas and the waterfall, and ends with a hotel drop-off in the evening.

  2. Preah Ang Thom pagoda

Preah Ang Thom is a statue of the reclining Buddha reaching nirvana, 8 meters (26 ft) in size. It is carved into a huge natural sandstone boulder, with a modern staircase and a shelter over the figure. Cambodians hold the site sacred, so there are always worshippers, and at times it gets busy.

    Extra fee

  3. Phnom Kulen Waterfall

Phnom Kulen National Park has two main waterfalls. The first is 4 to 5 metres (13 to 16 ft) high and about 25 metres (82 ft) wide in the rainy season; the second is 15 to 20 metres (49 to 66 ft) high and about 15 metres (49 ft) wide. The size changes with the season and the rain, and a visit is a popular part of a Kulen Mountain tour.

    Extra fee

  4. 1000 Lingas

A stretch of about 500 m of the riverbed is carved with lingas, big and small yoni and a large Vishnu. A small carving also shows in the bedrock along the river walls.

  5. Preah Dak Village

A brief stop in Preah Dak village to look around, take in the quiet, see village life and taste a traditional local cake.

  6. Siem Reap Province

The return begins in the late afternoon. The drive to Siem Reap takes about 1.5 hours, and the hotel drop-off is around 4 to 5 pm.
