Private 4WD Day Trip from Muscat to Wadi Shab, Bimmah Sinkhole and Fins Beach
This private day out is built for travelers who want a broad look at what lies east of Muscat. It runs about eight hours in a 4WD vehicle, with an English-speaking Omani guide, fuel and bottled water covered, and pick-up and drop-off at a hotel, port or airport in the Muscat area. Up to four travelers can book together. The road follows the coast from Muscat to Quriyat and then crosses the plateau before dropping to Wadi Shab. The walk through the canyon takes about 40 minutes, past green terraced gardens, to a series of streams and pools. The water is clear enough for a swim, and a narrow keyhole opening leads into a cave with a waterfall inside. The wadi floor is covered in rocks and pebbles, which makes walking harder than it looks, so sturdy shoes are advised. On the way back the Bimmah Sinkhole is the next stop: a large crater close to the sea with a small lake at the bottom, believed to have been made by a meteor. The last stop is Fins Beach at Tiwi, a white pebbly shore with blue water, where there is time to rest before the return to Muscat. Lunch is not included. The day is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for anyone with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
