Private Appleton Estate Rum Tour and YS Falls Zipline Day from Montego Bay, Seven Hours
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Montego BayYS Falls first, then rum: this private day from Montego Bay lasts about seven hours including the drive both ways. The vehicle is air-conditioned with WiFi on board and bottled water, and the booking needs a minimum of two people and takes up to 15 travelers. Infants sit on an adult's lap, and a moderate level of fitness is expected. At YS Falls a tractor-pulled jitney carries visitors in to a series of seven waterfalls that fall into natural pools. Swimmers can use those pools or a wading pool 4 feet (1.2 meters) deep, set beside a patio and garden. A canopy zip line, a recent addition, lets riders glide up to 40 feet above the falls, and river tubing is the other activity. Lifeguards are on duty. The estate has a restaurant that sells lunch, which is not in the price, as well as changing rooms. Appleton Estate is Jamaica's oldest sugar estate and distillery, with the first documented rum production in 1749. The guided tour lasts 1.5 hours and covers the history of rum in Jamaica, the sugarcane varieties, the yeast used for fermentation and the distillation and blending methods. Copper stills stand in the distillery, oak barrels in the ageing room, and the tour ends with a sample of the full range of Jamaican rums. The estate is closed on Mondays and public holidays, and the minimum age for the rum tour is 18.
