A private day away from the Angkor complex, built around Phnom Kulen, regarded as the birthplace of the Khmer Empire and about 50 kilometres from Siem Reap. An experienced English-speaking guide stays with the group and puts the history of the Khmer Empire in context. The hotel pickup is at 8 am in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the group sets out for Siem Reap in the early afternoon, arriving back at the hotel mid-afternoon. On Phnom Kulen the day covers ancient temples, a reclining Buddha, the River of a Thousand Lingas and a swim at Kulen Waterfall. The Kulen Mountain entrance fee, bottled water, a cool towel, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included. Meals are not, and guests choose where to eat. The tour suits people who enjoy the natural environment and want some variety between temple visits, and families with children will find plenty to see and do. It is not recommended for pregnant travelers or travelers with spinal injuries, and at least a moderate level of fitness is expected. Up to 15 travelers per booking.
