Private Plitvice Lakes and Zeljava Airbase Day Tour from Zagreb in a Yugo
This private full-day tour from Zagreb links Plitvice Lakes National Park with the abandoned Zeljava airbase, known as Object 505, and the transport is a Yugo. The drive to Plitvice takes about two hours, and the park is the oldest and most visited national park in Croatia. The park walk lasts about two hours, including a bus ride and a short boat ride, and covers both the Lower and Upper Lakes with views from above the canyon. Lunch is a break in the park and is not included. After the walk, a drive of 30 minutes leads to the Zeljava airbase, a well-kept Yugoslav army secret. Guides help visitors climb up an old Dakota plane, walk through the tunnels where the Yugoslav MIG fleet was kept, and ride a Yugo along the runways where MIGs once took off. The day begins in front of the main entrance to the concert hall in Zagreb. Other stops are a photo stop at Rastoke on the upper road and the Homeland War Museum at Turanj. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure.
