Mostar has the Old Bridge, but Herzegovina has more to show, and this day trip from Sarajevo covers it in one loop: Konjic, Kravica Falls, Počitelj, Blagaj and then Mostar. The start is the Info Bosnia Tourist Information Center on the main pedestrian street, near the Meeting of Cultures line, with a free shuttle on offer. Pickup from accommodations outside the Old Town is included. Konjic comes first, then Kravica, where swimming is included in summer and a train ride runs subject to availability. Počitelj adds an easy hike to the Kula fort above the village. Blagaj has a Dervish house at the source of the Buna, and Mostar rounds off the day with the Old Bridge, the Old Bazaar and the Old Town. The drive back takes just over two hours. A licensed guide, a bottle of water, a hand-crafted Bosnian sandwich (vegetarian on request) and luggage storage at the office are included, as are the entrance fees to Kravica and the Blagaj monastery when selected in the payment options. The 15-minute boat ride under the Mostar bridge is optional and costs 10 EUR in cash on site. A booking holds up to 20 travelers, with guiding in English, Italian or Turkish.

The tour starts at the Info Bosnia Tourist Information Center, and a free shuttle service is provided.

  3. Konjic Bridge

Konjic is the first, short stop: a place inhabited since prehistoric times, where Herzegovina begins. Its 17th-century six-arch Old Bridge is a good introduction to the emerald-green Neretva River.

  4. Kravice Falls

From Konjic the route heads to Kravica Falls, a favorite picnic area and summer swimming spot in Herzegovina. The cascade is 28 meters (92 feet) high and 120 meters (344 feet) wide, described as the biggest in the country. In summer, travelers can jump into the cold water as locals do, and the operator asks to be told in advance.

    Extra fee

  5. Pocitelj

Počitelj is a fortified medieval and Ottoman stone village whose look recalls Game of Thrones, with panoramic views. An easy hike leads to the Kula, a silo-shaped fort on top of the hill that housed watchmen and soldiers guarding against intrusions from the Neretva valley. A tree from the 15th century stands next to the minaret of the mosque.

  6. Blagaj tekija

After the hike the route continues to Blagaj, at the source of the Buna, described as Europe's most powerful, clean and drinkable river spring. The Dervish house was built in the 16th century on the site of an earlier Bogumil sanctuary and is still used by Dervishes for zikr. It is a place to learn about the Sufi order.

    Extra fee

  7. Old Bridge Area of the Old City of Mostar

Mostar is the last stop and the high point of the route. It is known for its old Turkish houses and the Old Bridge. The historic center reflects a long interaction between nature and human creativity, and its architecture stands for the shared life of Muslims, Christians and Jews. The guide focuses on the Old Bridge, the Old Bazaar and the Old Town and tells stories of the city's cosmopolitan heritage.

  8. Sarajevo City Center

The trip back to Sarajevo takes just over two hours and ends at the guests' accommodation. Guests who would rather finish in Mostar get a free drop-off at an address there.
