Troll.is
Pickup is at your accommodation, then the group leaves the city and drives into the countryside toward the South Coast.
-
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
The first stop is Seljalandsfoss. A short path leads behind the falls, so pack a raincoat. The ground shakes under the weight of the water, and the view from behind the curtain is the one most people photograph.
-
Skogafoss
At Skógafoss the river Skógá drops 60 meters off a cliff into a small gorge on its way to the Atlantic. A staircase beside the gorge climbs to the shelf above the fall for a view from the top.
-
Reynisfjara Beach
Reynisfjara is a black sand beach where Atlantic waves slam into the basalt columns of the cliffs. Rock pillars stand in the water and the cliffs of Dýrhólaey show in the distance. Puffins and other seabirds nest on the cliffs from June to August.
-
Solheimajokull Glacier
The glacier hike takes place on Sólheimajökull, with all glacier gear provided. Bring your own hiking boots and waterproof clothing, or rent them if needed.
-
Heading off on the second day
Day two goes to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon 200 m deep, fed by Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet of Europe's largest glacier. Icebergs break off all year, so the lagoon is usually full of drifting ice. In summer, Tröll Expeditions runs a boat ride among the icebergs.
-
Fellsfjara
Across the road, icebergs from the lagoon float out to the Atlantic and are thrown back onto the black sand of Fellsfjara by tide and wind. The beach is littered with chunks of ice of every size, in shades of white and blue.
-
Reykjavik
The tour is back in Reykjavik at around 7 pm. The drop-off takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
