Katla Ice Cave 4x4 Tour from Reykjavik via Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss and Reynisfjara
This day trip from Reykjavik follows Road 1 along the South Coast to the Katla ice cave, with two waterfalls and a black sand beach on the way and a 4x4 for the glacier. Seljalandsfoss comes first, where a pathway leads behind the curtain of water falling from a 60-meter cliff. Skógafoss is next, 60 meters high and 25 meters wide, with rainbows in its mist on sunny days and a staircase beside it for a view from above. Reynisfjara follows, with black sand, crashing waves and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. The main stop is the natural ice cave in the Katla glacier. Crampons and all equipment required for the glacier are included, and guides lead the way past translucent blue and black ice. The scenic drive around Katla Glacier is part of the price, along with pickup and drop-off in Reykjavik and on the South Coast, and WiFi on board. Lunch is not included, and travelers bring their own clothing for the weather. At least a moderate level of fitness is needed, and the trip is not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. Up to 16 travelers can book together, guided in English.
