This outing is built around a walk along the river, through canyons and past caves, ending at La Leona Waterfall. It is sold as a hike and tubing trip, and the day is organized as a loop with stops in Liberia at the start and end. The first stop in Liberia is a practical one. There is time to use the bathrooms, buy a quick bite, go to the supermarket and pick up souvenirs. Then comes the main part, in the Rincón de la Vieja area, where local professional guides wait for the group and lead the walk. Along the trail there are animals to look for, large rocks and some small caves, and at the end the waterfall, called the Lioness by the operator, where guests can stand under the falling water like a shower. Lunch is in the small community of Curubandé: a typical casado with a natural soft drink. The operator describes the village as very organized and clean. On the way back, a final stop in Liberia is set aside for buying local souvenirs and using the bathrooms. The booking includes a bilingual Spanish and English guide, lunch and a life vest. Gratuities are not included. The outing is set at about 5 hours. Up to 10 travelers can book together, infant seats are available, and a moderate level of fitness is needed. It is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for people with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
