La Leona Waterfall Shared Tour with Casado Lunch from Tamarindo

Departures leave from Pacific Park in Tamarindo on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the group meeting in front of the park's main entrance next to Sharky's bar. The ride to the waterfall takes between 1.5 and 2 hours each way, and that travel time counts in the roughly 6 hour length of the outing. The hike itself lasts about one hour. It follows trails through tropical dry forest beside a blue river, with swims in its clear water, ladder climbs and hidden caves, before the canyon that holds La Leona Waterfall. The group is shared, not private. Lunch is a Costa Rican casado: rice, beans, salad and plantain, with a choice of fish, chicken, pork, beef or a vegetarian option. Bottled water is also included, while tips are not. Footwear decides who can join. Sturdy closed-toe sneakers or hiking shoes with thick rubber soles are strictly required, and sandals, Chacos and light water shoes are not allowed, because the tour involves ladders, caves and extremely slippery submerged rocks. Guests without proper athletic footwear cannot take part. The hike is described as hard. It is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for people with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. Up to 15 travelers can book together, in English or Spanish.
