La Leona Waterfall Small-Group Hike with Hotel Transport and Lunch
Small groups run this outing, with round trip transportation from the hotels and a typical Costa Rican lunch after the hike. The whole trip, transfers and lunch included, takes around 5 to 6 hours depending on where the guest is staying. At least 4 adults are needed for the tour to operate. A truck takes the group about 10 minutes each way to the trailhead. The walk to La Leona is about 3 km (2 miles) round trip and about 2 hours in total. It follows a gravel path across streams, up and down stairs and rocks, and over vines, to the blue water of the Río Blanco. Monkeys and birds can be spotted on the way. At the waterfall, guests can swim in the cool water for as long as they like. The operator calls the trail intermediate. It has many rocks and roots, and guests with any health restriction are asked to say so in advance. Water shoes or sneakers are needed, and flip-flops are not allowed. A towel, comfortable clothes, a raincoat, insect repellent, sunblock, dry clothes and cash for extras are on the packing list. A life belt and a waterproof bag are included. The booking also covers bottled water, WiFi on board, all fees and taxes, and an air-conditioned vehicle. Alcoholic beverages are not included. Up to 14 travelers can book together, in English or Spanish.
