This nine-hour day starts with a morning pick-up from Arusha, Moshi or Kilimanjaro Airport in an air-conditioned vehicle. The drive ends at Materuni, the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park, where a local guide takes over for a short village walk. The trail passes banana and coffee farms and small settlements before reaching Materuni Waterfalls, with time to stand in the mountain air and look. Back in the village, local farmers show how coffee is grown, harvested, prepared and roasted, and guests join in before drinking a freshly made cup. A hot lunch prepared in the village follows. In the late afternoon the vehicle returns to Moshi, Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport. Included are village entrance fees, a professional local guide, pick-up and drop-off from Arusha or Moshi, luggage storage during activities, drinking water, the guided hike and all activities. Alcoholic and extra drinks, tips for the guide and hosts, and personal expenses and souvenirs cost extra. Groups are small, with up to 15 travellers per booking, and guiding is in English. The village walk is moderate on uneven natural terrain, and the waterfall trail can be slippery, so hiking shoes are advised. Timings can shift with weather and road conditions.

  1. Your day begins with a morning pick-up from Arusha

On arrival the group meets the local guide for a short village walk through lush vegetation, banana and coffee farms and small communities, ending at Materuni Waterfalls. There is time to enjoy the scenery and mountain air before walking back to the village. Local farmers then show how coffee is traditionally grown, harvested, prepared and roasted, and guests can take part and drink a freshly prepared cup of Tanzanian coffee. Lunch is cooked in the village and eaten without hurry. In the late afternoon the vehicle drives back and drops guests in Moshi, Arusha or at Kilimanjaro Airport.
